The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has expressed concern over the food security situation in the southern Yemeni city of Taiz. According to national news agency WAM, a lack of humanitarian access has left tens of thousands of people without food assistance for over a month. A June report classified the city and nine other governorates in Yemen as facing food insecurity at ‘emergency level’, threatening thousands of lives. A Saudi-led coalition has been launching air strikes in Taiz and other neighboring cities to fight Houthi rebels. WFP’s Dubai office has been sending help in the field of logistics and telecommunications, while government entities and other charities in the emirates continue to extend humanitarian aid to the people of Yemen.
