The first phase of the Khorfakkan West Ring Road has been inaugurated, coinciding with the UAE's Golden Jubilee.
The development project in the eastern coast links Maliha Road to Sheikh Khalifa Street and the E99.
The new road, stretching 10 km will facilitate the movement of light vehicles and trucks, and ease traffic congestion in the city centre.
It can accommodate more than 40,000 vehicles per day in each direction.
Suhail Mohammed Al Mazrouei, Minister of Energy and Infrastructure, said the project would boost the economic position of the UAE's East Coast, which has several heavy and medium industries representing various sectors.
He added that the ministry has completed 29 federal roads over the past two decades, taking the current length of federal roads in the country to over 932 km.
