The UAE and the UK have agreed to work closer together on climate change in the run-up to COP28.

At a meeting in London both countries agreed to closer cooperation to shape a bold response to the global stock-take and work on a breakthrough agenda to tackle the climate crisis at the COP28 summit being held in Dubai this November.

The discussions were led by COP28 President-Designate Dr Sultan Al Jaber, Grant Shapps, UK Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero, and Minister for Energy Security and Net Zero, Graham Stuart.

Later, Dr Sultan Al Jaber met with Zac Goldsmith, UK Minister of State for Overseas Territories, Commonwealth, Energy, Climate and Environment, on the sidelines of London Climate Action Week, to discuss the need for a strong focus on food systems, health and water in the climate agenda at COP28.

Meanwhile, COP28's Director General Majid Al Suwaidi outlined the summit's priorities and plans to drive accelerated action in the transition to renewable energy, finance, adaptation, and loss and damage.

Majid Al Suwaidi joined a panel discussion held as part of London Climate Action Week, running in the UK capital until July 2.
