The UAE summoned Sweden's Chargé D’Affaires to the UAE, Liselott Andersson, and handed an official note of protest against the repeated attacks on the Holy Quran by extremists in her country.
Stressing that Sweden has disregarded its international responsibilities and demonstrated a lack of respect for social values, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the government's decision to continue to allow such acts to occur.
The authority underscored the UAE's rejection of "the use of freedom of expression as justification for such heinous acts", the national news agency WAM reported.
Furthermore, the ministry stressed the need to respect religious symbols and avoid incitement and polarisation at a time when the international community needs to work together to reaffirm a commitment to upholding the universal principles of tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
