The UAE has reiterated its commitment to the unity and integrity of the Syrian state as it monitored the ongoing developments in the country.
It comes just days after UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen briefed the Security Council following Israeli attacks in southern Syria that left four people dead.
During discussions with Pedersen, UAE Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohamed Abushahab, stressed the need to ensure "Syria is free from extremism, violence and discrimination".
The two sides also looked into the imperative of a peaceful, inclusive, Syrian-led and Syrian-owned political transition, and the UN's vital role in supporting stability and development in the country.
The violence along the border area marks increased friction between Israel and Syria, where a new leadership has been installed after rebels ousted former leader Bashar al-Assad from power in December
Ambassador Abushahab held a substantive exchange with Geir Pedersen, UN Special Envoy for Syria, on the latest developments in Syria.
