While many of us were glued to our TV screens on Wednesday night, the Dubai ruler witnessed history being made whilst out cycling.

The footage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of UAE and Ruler of Dubai, pulling up by the roadside to watch Hazzaa Al Mansoori lift off into space has won over the internet.

In 11 hours, the video has been viewed more than 500,000 times on the instagram page of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council.

"Zayed's dream has come true," he wrote.

Thirty-five-year-old Hazzaa scripted history for the UAE, becoming the first Emirati in space and the first Arab to set foot on the International Space Station (ISS).
