AED 2 billion project to widen the Dubai- Al Ain Road is 60 per cent complete now, the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said.

Besides easing the traffic flow, the project will enhance links with key roads like Ras Al Khor Road, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road and the Emirates Road.

Once completed, the project will increase the capacity of the road from 6,000 to 12,000 vehicles per hour. It will also cut the travel time on Dubai-Al Ain Road, from Bu Kadra junction to Emirates Road junction, from 16 to 8 minutes during peak hours.

“The Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project is one of the key strategic projects that aims to improve the quality of life in the city and achieve happiness for the community while also strengthening Dubai’s position amongst the world’s safest cities in traffic safety,” Mattar Mohammed Al Tayer, Director-General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said:

The project work includes constructing a flyover of four lanes in each direction and  a new ramp to serve the traffic from Dubai heading northwards to Academic City and Dubai Silicon Oasis.
