Large fire contained in Abu Dhabi building

Authorities in Abu Dhabi put out a major fire that broke out in a residential tower on Friday night.

The blaze erupted in a 12-storey building located on Al Marwu Street, in Al Mamoura district.

According to Abu Dhabi Police, residents of Al Nahyan area had reported hearing a loud bang in an apartment on the seventh floor.

The building was safely evacuated by civil defence teams and other emergency personnel who were quick to reach the scene.

Residents who suffered smoke inhalation were taken to hospital.

The cause of the fire is not yet known.
