Residents have been receiving messages from the Dubai Police on their mobile phones, advising them to take adequate precautions due to the bad weather conditions.

"Dubai is expected within the next few hours to experience adverse weather conditions," the message read.

"Avoid beaches, refrain from sailing, stay clear of valleys and areas prone to flash floods, exercise caution, drive with care and heed the advice of the authorities."

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has suspended marine transport services until further notice.

The authority also suspended intercity bus services between Dubai and Al Ain.

Unstable weather in the UAE is predicted to continue until mid-day Sunday.
