His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of Dubai Executive Council has unveiled a mega underwater project to boost fish and biomass populations.

Spanning over 600 square kilometers, the project is the equivalent size to 85,000 football pitches and is made up of 20,000 artificial modules, creating over 400,000 cubic meters of reefs.

In a video posted on social media by Visit Dubai, Sheikh Hamdan can be seen diving into the sea as the reef modules are lowered onto the ocean floor, before signing a plaque signifying the installation of the first reef module.

"The Dubai Reef project’s significant long-term environmental and socio-economic impacts will serve Dubai’s commitment to ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come," Sheikh Hamdan said.
