GCC to increase its desalination capacity by 40% by 2020

The GCC needs to increase its water desalination capacity by nearly 40% by 2020. That’s according to research company MEED Projects, who say it’s all down to fast growing populations in the UAE and Qatar, and depleting groundwater supplies in Saudi Arabia. It’s thought the UAE has plenty of capacity, but water supply is set to be a challenge for other GCC countries. Ed James is from MEED Projects, he says the UAE is using tariffs to control demand.
