ERC unveils new phase of projects for earthquake-affected Syrians

WAM

The Emirates Red Crescent (ERC) has launched the next phase of its development projects to support those affected by the earthquake that struck Syria's Latakia governorate in February 2023.

The initiative is aimed at empowering affected families, improving their living conditions and accelerating the governorate's overall recovery.

The latest phase includes an irrigation project in Al-Musheirfeh village to provide sustainable water supply for over 3,500 people working in the agriculture sector. It also includes the delivery of solar-powered water tanks and livestock breeding projects.

A delegation from the ERC, headed by Hamoud Abdullah Al Junaibi, Deputy Secretary-General for Local Affairs, inaugurated the projects, in the presence of Hasan Al Shehhi, UAE Ambassador to Syria and senior Syrian officials.

The ERC and the Syrian Trust for Development also signed a cooperation agreement covering several humanitarian, relief and development fields.

Al Junaibi said that these initiatives are an extension of ERC's ongoing projects in Syria that cover key sectors such as health, education, housing and others.

"The projects we are inaugurating today represent a new phase and a transitional shift in the ERC's efforts to support the Syrian people. They embody the ERC's vision to boost sustainability and empower affected families by providing them with means of production that compensate them for what they lost during the disaster, help them meet their basic needs, and reach self-sufficiency," he explained.
