A new water reservoir is now operational in Dubai's Enkhali area as part of efforts to boost the emirate's water security.

The facility, with a storage capacity of 120 million imperial gallons (MIG), has been commissioned by Dubai Electricity & Water Authority at a total cost of AED 287.8 million.

It will help improve the efficiency and reliability of water networks and raise the volume of reserves to keep pace with Dubai's development.

The latest project, along with three other reservoirs in Lusaily, Hassyan and Hatta areas will eventually increase the stororage capacity of desalinated water in Dubai to 1,121.3 MIG, compared to the current capacity of 1,001.3 MIG.

"These reservoirs add to the Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ASR) project for desalinated water, of which DEWA has completed its first phase. The full scale of the ASR project can store up to 6,000 million imperial gallons of water, once completed by 2025," said Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD & CEO of DEWA.
