COP29: H.H. Sheikh Saif meets with global officials in Baku

Lieutenant General H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, engaged in key discussions with international officials in Baku on the sidelines of the COP29.

H.H. Sheikh Saif bin Zayed met with Vilayat Eyvazov, Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and exchanged views and visions with the Azerbaijani Minister on enhancing security and stability, and discussed the vital role of the I2LEC initiative in mobilising international efforts to support law enforcement institutions in the field of combating environmental crimes.

During the meeting, he announced the launch of the strategic policy dialogue between the Ministries of Interior of the two friendly countries to enhance the security partnership in a way that supports the security and stability of societies. This cooperation reflects the spirit of strong partnership between the two friendly countries and contributes to enhancing international peace and security for the benefit of all societies.

H.H. also met with Dr. Kamran Aliyev, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, where the meeting reviewed international efforts within the I2LEC initiative in uncovering crimes related to environmental crimes, and the effects of combating these crimes in enhancing justice and the rule of law. The importance of international cooperation to support peace, stability and sustainable development at the regional and global levels was also discussed, stressing the joint commitment to confronting the challenges of organized crime, so that societies enjoy the highest levels of security and safety.

Sheikh Saif also met with Ghada Waly, Executive Director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and discussed with the UN official the close partnership relations with the United Nations, and discussed the developments and updates of effective initiatives under the umbrella of the (I2LEC) initiative to enhance international cooperation and empower law enforcement agencies in the fields of combating environmental crimes, with the aim of ensuring a sustainable and prosperous future for humanity.

H.H. also met with Igor Krasnov, Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation, where they discussed the prospects of the positive international role of the (I2LEC) initiative in combating environmental crimes and related crimes. The meeting also discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in the fields of security and justice, and exchanging expertise to confront cross-border security challenges, including combating terrorism and organized crime; as expanding the horizons of international cooperation contributes to strengthening security systems to ensure greater stability and protection for societies.

As part of this series of meetings, H.H. met with Alexander Zouev, Assistant Secretary-General for the Office of Rule of Law and Security Institutions in the United Nations Department of Peacekeeping Operations, where the meeting discussed current regional and international developments, and the positive effects of the (I2LEC) initiative and its role in enhancing stability in human societies, stressing the importance of international strategic partnerships and a firm commitment to the principles of the rule of law, to confront humanitarian crises and achieve lasting peace and comprehensive justice throughout the world.
