A smart monitoring system to detect seat belt and mobile phone violations while driving is set to be implemented in Ajman on October 1, Ajman Police said on Wednesday.

“In order to ensure the safety of road users and reduce traffic accidents and injuries, Ajman Police General Headquarters announces the activation of the smart monitoring system to detect violations of mobile phone use while driving and failing to wear a seatbelt,” the Ajman Police said on social media platform X.

The use of mobile phones while driving will result in a AED 800 fine and four black points, according to federal law.

Ajman’s launch of its smart system follows a similar initiative launched by Dubai in June. The Emirate’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) launched Phase II of its Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITC) project to cover 100 per cent, from 60 per cent, of the emirate's main roads using smart technologies and software.
