England played out a goalless draw against Slovenia in their final Group C match at UEFA Euro 2024 on Tuesday, meaning they finished top of the group and secured a place in the knockout stage.

Denmark also ended their group stage with a 0-0 draw against Serbia, earning them second place due to their disciplinary record..

Slovenia, by virtue of their draw with England, finished third and advanced to the knockout stage.

Although England only won one of their three matches so far at Euro 2024 - the 1-0 win against Serbia in their first fixture - they can take some solace in progressing to the next round.

Their last-16 opponents are yet to be confirmed, with the Netherlands a possibility if they qualify as as one of the best third-placed teams, after their defeat to Austria 3-2 in group D.

England are, however, now on the opposite side of the draw to Germany, Spain, Portugal and France, so cannot meet any of those sides until the final.

In the other Group D match, France and Poland drew 1-1, securing France's spot in the knockout stage, while Poland's tournament journey ended.

Kylian Mbappe gave France the lead with a penalty in the 56th minute, but Robert Lewandowski equalised for Poland with a penalty of his own in the 79th minute.

Austria topped the group with six points, followed by France with five points, both advancing directly to the round of 16. The Netherlands finished third with four points and await the final group stage outcomes to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams. Poland, with just one point, have been eliminated from the tournament.
