Internet disrupted again in northern Gaza

FADEL SENNA/ AFP

Communications networks and the internet have been cut off again in areas of the northern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said on Monday.

The latest outage comes after The Washington Post newspaper quoted a senior American official as saying that the United States pressured the Israeli government to restart communication and internet services in the Gaza Strip after Israel cut them off on Friday.

The interruption on Saturday meant communication was almost impossible with ambulances or families, as Israel expanded its air and ground attack.

International relief organisations said the disruption, which began on Friday evening, exacerbated an already deteriorating situation by hampering life-saving operations and preventing organisations from contacting their staff on the ground.
