The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are set to visit Pakistan in a few months' time, with more details to be released in "due course".

A statement from Kensington Palace made the announcement without divulging more details.

This will be the first official visit by a member of the British royal family to Pakistan since 2006 when Prince Charles and Camilla had travelled to the South Asian country.

The High Commissioner for Pakistan, Mohammad Nafees Zakaria, said the government and people of Pakistan welcomed the announcement.

"The upcoming royal visit is a reflection of the importance the United Kingdom attaches to its relations with Pakistan," he said, adding, "The two countries enjoy historical links which both sides wish to strengthen further."

It comes just days after it was revealed The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will tour South Africa this autumn with their baby son.
