Passenger numbers triple at Abu Dhabi airports

WAM

Abu Dhabi Airports registered a three-fold increase in passenger traffic in 2022 compared to the previous year.

A total of 15.9 million travellers passed through Abu Dhabi International, Al Ain International, Al Bateen Executive, Delma Island and Sir Bani Yas Island airports last year, up 202 per cent from the 5.26 million in 2021.

"It illustrates the emirate’s vast potential as an attractive destination to visit, live and work in," said Jamal Salem Al Dhaheri, Managing Director and CEO of Abu Dhabi Airports.

"Looking ahead, we are working towards readiness to accommodate even greater passenger traffic in 2023, which we anticipate, as higher numbers of international visitors come to the UAE for key events."

Air traffic movement across the five airports also remained strong, totalling 194,667 in 2022, while overall cargo traffic was favourable, with 583,949 tonnes of air freight handled across Abu Dhabi and Al Ain International airports.

Abu Dhabi International Airport served more than 100 destinations and has a network of 28 airlines, as of December 2022.

During the fourth quarter of 2022, the airport welcomed 4.78 million passengers, double the figures (2.43 million) in Q4 2021.
