Masdar, the UAE's leading clean energy company, and its partners have reached a major milestone in the development of a 1-gigawatt (GW) wind farm in Kazakhstan.

The project’s Investment Agreement was signed on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, with key figures including Nurlan Baibazarov, Deputy Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, and Mohamed Jameel Al Ramahi, CEO of Masdar, in attendance.

The agreement was formally signed by Almassadam Satkaliyev, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy, and Abdulla Zayed, Director of Business and Project Development at Masdar.

Located in the Jambyl region, the wind farm will also include a 600-megawatt-hour Battery Energy Storage System. This marks Masdar’s first project in Kazakhstan, the largest economy in Central Asia.

Co-developed by W Solar, Qazaq Green Power, and the Kazakhstan Investment Development Fund, the 1GW wind farm will be one of the largest in the Commonwealth of Independent States.

Construction is set to begin in early 2026, and once completed, the facility will power around 300,000 homes and reduce CO2 emissions by 2 million tonnes annually.
