Social media accounts to be shut if they don’t adhere to new rules
Social media accounts will be shut down and fines issued to UAE influencers not complying with the new Electronic Media Regulations.
Officials from the National Media Council say residents must apply for the new mandatory e-media licence by the first week of June and they have three months to become authorised.
Fines of up to AED 5,000 will be handed to violators.
Jeff Johns, Founder of Travel Vlog, What Doesn’t Suck?, shares his concerns about the new law.
Johns also believes there are likely to be fewer social media influencers with the introduction of the licence, and he says that it could be beneficial.
