Back down-under he’s known as Rod Maldon, but on Dubai 92’s Power Drive from 4pm-8pm he’s known as The i-Rod. Traditionally, people with the good looks become actors or TV news anchors, those with the voice, appear on radio, but this eye candy is not one for stereotypes! He may be a devilishly handsome presenter, but he’s never thrown a shrimp on the barbie, he makes his own homemade Rocky Road and irons his own clothes, (imagine that ladies)! He’s a bit obsessive about making sure the iron’s turned off, something about not wanting to burn the house down (again is it?) and he’s crazy about music. This love affair started at the tender age of 16 and has grown into a passionate and successful career over the last 15 years. Sandwiched between then and now The i-Rod has been nominated for 2 ACRA (Australian Commercial Radio Awards) for Best Music Personality Australia 2008 and 2009. He was also number 1 across the board in Afternoons at The Fox (Fox FM Melbourne, more famous than marmite) and remained there consecutively since 2007! But more interesting than his glass-case of awards is that The i-Rod and his brother were born on the same day, three years apart and he (not his brother) also appeared on some dodgy TV commercials (bow-chicka-bow-wow). He’s a rabid fan of all music genres, especially live music and digs cinema popcorn. His parting words reveal a deep intellect and wisdom beyond his age: “one should never eat before going on the 4WD Desert Safari Tour.”
