Ones To Watch

We’re in the middle of awards season but instead of looking at the best of last year we thought we’d look ahead at some of the films we think we’ll be talking about in 2018. Before you get irate about movies we’ve missed off the list, this isn’t a chart, it’s just a run down (in order of release date!) of 10 films we think you should book a ticket for now – and trust us, we’ve barely even scratched the surface, it’s a bumper year for the box office.

Black Panther
US Release – February

If you’ve been to the cinema in the last couple of months you’ll definitely have seen the trailer for this. Marvel Studios age gone all out for their next release and we can’t wait to see it.

A Wrinkle In Time
US Release – March

Disney have brought in the A-listers for this…Reese Witherspoon, Mindy Kaling and Oprah, that’s right OPRAH star in this sci-fi fantasy novel adaptation!

Red Sparrow
US Release – March
Red Sparrow is about ballerina Dominika Egorova (played by Jennifer Lawrence) being recruited to ‘Sparrow School’: a Russian intelligence service where she is forced to use her body as a weapon. What a story outline that is!!

Isle Of Dogs
US Release – March

Hands up who’s excited about the upcoming Wes Anderson movie, Isle Of Dogs…everyone then! If you liked his version of Fantastic Mr Fox, then you’ll be rolling over for a tummy rub after you’ve seen this one.

US Release – April

The remake you didn’t know you wanted them to make (you remember? with Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell). Anna Faris plays the mean, selfish heiress who gets amnesia, and a carpenter, who she’s wronged, decides to introduce her to working-class life by convincing her they’re husband and wife. The original is incredible, so we’re expecting big things from this.

Avengers: Infinity War
Release – April
Over the years, Marvel Studio have set up a lot of stories that will converge in the first of the Infinity series. We get the feeling there’s going to be A LOT going on in this Marvel film.

A Star Is Born
US Release – May
If you saw Lady Gaga’s Netflix documentary “Five Foot Two” last year you’ll have heard her talking about this… Bradley Cooper, Lady Gaga, what’s not to like.

Oceans 8
US Release – June
The female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven stars Kate Blanchett, Sandra Bullock, Julia Roberts, Rihanna, Sarah Paulson, Olivia Munn, Mindy Kaling and Anne Hathaway, to name but a few – come on, you know you can’t wait to see this.

The Incredibles 2
US Release – July

We hope the 14 year wait for the return of our favourite red spandex family is worth it. Knowing Pixar it will be worth every minute!

US Release – August

Originally Amy Schumer was lined up to play Barbie, but it looks like Anne Hathaway has signed up to take on the world’s most famous blonde instead. With a lead like that we hope we can finally put to bed all the animated attempts to bring our favourite plastic princess to life.

Mary Poppins Returns
US Release – December

Has there ever been a better film casting than Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins? Well… apart from Julie Andrews as Mary Poppins of course, you’ve got quite a wait for this one.
