DHA recommends annual kidney checks for young adults
UAE residents as young as 20-years-old should be screened for kidney disease at least once a year.
That’s the message from health experts in Dubai, who say that hospitals are witnessing a rise in the number of young patients, mainy due to the onset of early diabetes.
Those with a family history of the disease are being urged to get screened every six months.
In 2017, Dubai Hospital performed nearly 35,337 dialysis sessions for about 260 patients. Of these, 45 to 48 per cent were diabetic.
The Dubai Health Authority (DHA) conducts periodic campaigns and screening programmes across schools, medical centres, malls and government departments to raise awareness about kidney disease and the importance of early detection.
