Today’s PHRASE OF THE DAY on the show is SUNDAZE – The state you find yourself in on the first day back to work after the weekend. For some the Sundaze can be eliminated during the drive in to the office, for others it lasts until Wednesday.

PIC OF THE DAY
FIVE ESSENTIAL BACK TO SCHOOL APPS FOR IPHONE/IPAD/TOUCH
A great one for your kids and you. 40,000 distinct indexed words with 400,000 synonyms and antonyms. Includes intelligent word entry, so it’ll suggest corrections as you type (because we all make mistakes on the on-screen keypad from time to time) and will list words that sound the same and are often confused. Of course the first thing you need to look up is whether or not there’s another word for Thesaurus!Available for iPod Touch, iPhone & iPad. No internet connection is required.
2. OXFORD DICTIONARY OF ENGLISH WITH AUDIO:
When it comes to dictionaries, nobody does it better than the boffs at Oxford. 350,000 words, phrases and meanings. 70,000 audio pronunciations, plus thousands on encyclopedic entries, too. With the recent (somewhat depressing) news that after more than one hundred years in print, the Oxford English Dictionary will soon no loner be available in print, this app is going to be an essential. Available for iPod Touch, iPhone & iPad. No internet connection is required.
3. CONVERT – THE UNIT CALCULATOR:
Oh, the times I’ve needed this app! It’s all good and well knowing how many kilograms I’ve gained out here in the desert but what’s that in stones and ounces? Well, plenty, as a matter of fact. This app is great for the whole family. Mum and Dad can use it in the kitchen when messing up recipes, the kids can use it for maths, the sciences and much more. You can even use the typography settings for calculating required font sizes. How nerdy is that? Available for iPod Touch, iPhone & iPad. No internet connection is required.
If Doctor Who had an iPhone (and let’s face it, he probably does), he’d definitely have this app. Actually 18 apps within an app (so a bit like the TARDIS, then), including Scale, Temperature, Digital Angle Gauge, Spirit Level, Ruler, Compass, GPS and Magnometer to help Dad find wires in the wall shortly before he drills right through them. Much more is included in the bundle, too. Available for iPod Touch, iPhone & iPad. Some apps required 3GS and internet connection.
The life of a student can be dizzying at best (well, at least that’s what I remember from college anyway). This app lets you take charge of your schedule, keep an eye on your timetable and helps you never be late for handing in the dreaded homework ever again. Also works great for parents wanting to keep up with what their precious little snowflakes are up to and, of course, teachers who can use all that extra time this app will give them to plan next year’s three month jolly! Available for iPod Touch, iPhone & iPad.
